Pang Man Part 32: Cool Collectibles, Pokémon Soft Drinks
Having had a tasty lunch in Soho on Christmas Eve, I decided I had best walk it off with a quick trip to Chinatown.
Unfortunately, it was at this point that the weather gods decided to bless us with a bit of heavy rain.
Seeking shelter, I huddled under a random shop canopy nearby. There was an internal debate in my mind over whether to wait out the rain or to brave the weather then and there, however, something out of the corner of my eye caught my attention.
It was the window display of the small food shop I was next to. Piled up on top of each other were some familiar characters. “Holy shit”, I thought to myself, “Pokémon!”
And these weren’t just ordinary drinks with a Pokémon association. They appeared to be official Nintendo Pokémon specific soft drink cans. And not one design but 6 or 7 different ones.
I rushed into the store and made a beeline for the drinks section.
Looking at the prices they weren’t cheap, in fact, they were £1.50 each, but I knew I had to get them.
I had £10 in my wallet, so I knew I could get 6. There were two different Pikachu variations so I decided to get one and return another day for the other. Besides Pikachu, I bought 4 other character-specific soft drink cans
(Jigglypuff, Charmander, Squirtle, Bulbasaur) as well as one Pokéball can.

Design wise they were all pretty cool (in my eyes anyhow!)
I sent a photo to my friend who asked how they tasted. Now at this point, I hadn’t even considered drinking them. I just thought they would look awesome to display in my games room.
In the end, I reconsidered though and went for the Jigglypuff one. I expected the liquid to be a pink colour but instead, it was clear. Taste wise it was refreshing, essentially peach flavoured fizzy water.
Pleasant enough but probably not worth buying just for the taste alone
I’m not that bothered though, they still look cool on display and would be a great gift for any Pokémon fan.
I will definitely be making a return visit the next time I pop by Chinatown!
